The fellow in the very last row, third from the right, wearing a black hat is Moses Edward THOMPSON (#47). The girl he married, the year after this was taken, is in the second row from front, third woman from left, wearing a white hat and a black belt - her name was Bula SLOAN (#16).

There are other Thompsons on there but I don't know which ones.

THIS IS A RESPONSE I RECEIVED ON THE ABOVE PICTURE

I am writing concerning the photo of the Montague Co. Farmers Union Photo. Moses Edward Thompson was my grandmother (Elvie Thompson Sloan's) brother and Bula Sloan was my grandfather (Dee Franklin Sloan's) sister. The man in the dark shirt on the 3rd row behind the lady in the dark dress is William Greenlee (Buck) Thompson (#24). I am researching the Thompson's and if you have anything to share, I would be very thankful. Sincerely, June Barnes Texarkana, Tx

My name is Don Beasley. The man in the front row the fifth from the right is my great-grandfather Marion Beasley (#6). He died in 1922 in Nocona at the age of 109. There is more info on him in a book "The Biographical Record of North and West Texas" by Capt. B.B. Paddock. Also there is a book named "Story of Montague county, Texas-Its Past and Present" that has 1,200 stories of families, towns and communities with lots of pictures. It was great to see my Great-grandfather. Also my cousin Bob confirmed that it was him. Don.Beasley @ wsd.k12.az.us

That is a great picture of the Montague County Farmers Union! I am fairly certain that the man in the front row 4th from the left is James Thomas Davenport (#4). It looks just like a picture I have of him and he would have been 70 years old. Thanks for sending it! Kimber Camp

The man on the front row with a white long beard and balding forhead looks
like Julius M. Foust (#6). I can't be sure but it looks like him to me.

I am wondering if anyone has identified the gentleman on the first row left.
He is on his knees wearing a dark suit and appears to be a large man. My
ggrandfather owned a farm in Montague Co. I have a picture of him as an
elderly man and this picture surely resembles him right down to the mustache.

I never knew him but would love to know if this might be him. His name was
Churchaway Little Rolls (#1).
Thank you,

Rhonda Lepisto

I may be wrong, but I believe the man 4th from the right (the
viewer's right) is my ggrandfather, Doc Gray (#7). This would have been taken
about a year before his death. It is my understanding that his given
name was Daniel, his wife's name was Clara, and he had three sons by her,
Charles Edwin, William Lee, and Edwin Robert (my grandfather).

If you know anything about the Grays I would be grateful to find out
anything that you know.

Thank you!

Correction: Received 5/16/2004

The Farmer's Union picture has ( I believe) my great grandfather Daniel (Doc) Gray.
He is number six not number 7. Thank you!

Hi, I am a great great grandson to Rev. Marion Beasley (#6), who has been
identified as the front row 5th from the right. I wonder if there is a way
to get a higher resolution copy of this picture file? JPEG is fine. I want
to blow it up to see the faces better.

Thanks very much,

Clay Rippenhagen

I may be wrong but the man on the front row 4th from the left with a beard
looks an awful lot like my grandfather who was James Preston Byford (#4) who
owned a farm in Mallard, Texas.

In one of your responses to the picture another person identified the gentleman
as someone else but he sure looks like a picture I have of him to be my grandfather.

Respectfully,

Joyce Monroe

Hello:
My name is Rebecca L. Thompson. I found your picture on the net. I am talking with my
grandfather but I think the man in first row second from the left, is my Great-Great
Grandfather Thompson (#2). We do not know his first name.

His First born is Marion Carddle Thompson my Uncle and his second is David Carse Thompson,
my Great-Grandfather. I have other pictures if you would like to see. If you know his name
would you please email me back.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Thompson

I'm almost 99.9% certain # 5 is my great grandfather James Madison McNabb.
I have an old photo of him and they appear to be the same person.
If you can look at his eyes closely one is a glass eye, he lost it in the Civil War.
I would dearly love to have a copy of this photo.

Thanks

I do believe that the man under number five who is the fifth person from the left
in the first row kneeling with a light colored hat that is upside down bears a
resemblance to my great-great-great-grandfather Captain Charles Samuel "Sam" Atchison.
His name has been misspelled as ATCHESON and Atkinson on some documents posted on the web.
He was a captain of a steamboat on the Mississippi River prior to moving to Queen's Peak,
Montague County, Texas. Please see the attached photo that was taken of him at the time for comparison.

Thanks for your dedication and sharing of this photo,

Dara Atchison-Springer

Hi there,
Number 13 is Lucinda Vance Hankins Bray, daughter of Jesse and Gilletha Rogers Hankins.

Number 18 is John Henry Bray, son of George Washington (1820) and Eliza Jane Nevitt Bray.
I added the 1820 because there were several Bray ancestors named after our founding fathers and this will help keep the confusion down.

I noticed there are several Hankins in the area at this time; however, it is more likely that the Bray family was in Texas helping
or working for their son in-laws - the McCarley and McDuffee families.

Feel free to share my email address, I'm always happy to share.

If you're still interested in learning who's who about the photo, the

man kneeling in front (would be #1), is my grandmother's father. If

you're still at this address, I have pictures of him and his wife, as

well as one of him when he was older. Kathleen
