It appears to have been written about 1934

The Presbyterian Church in Wichita Falls is almost as old as the community itself. The Presbyterians might, if they chose, claim priority over all other denominations in Wichita Falls, for a big proportion of the communicants of the first community church were Presbyterians. The Sunday School superintendent was a Presbyterian, J. H. Barwise, and his daughter, Miss Lulu, was the organist.

In October, 1882, the Presbyterians erected a frame structure at the corner of Ninth and Indiana, where the Perkins-Timberlake Department Store now stands, and held their services there for many years. The church was organized by a Rev. Mr. Tucker in the home of Col. and Mrs. L. T. Miller. It was placed, under the care of the Presbyterian Church, U. S. A. The charter members of the church were: Col. and Mrs. L. T. Miller, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Knott, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Barwise, Sr., Mrs. George Black, George T. Knott, and Lulu Barwise. The first deacons were Col. L. T. Miller and George T. Knott.

Pastors that have served this church are as follows: Rev. C. H. Johnston, Dr. J. C. Ealy, Rev. M. Griffin, Dr. A. K. Baird, a stated supply by the name of Bridges, Rev. M. McCallum, Rev. C. H. Hudson, Rev. M. H. Kerr, Rev. Henry S. Little, Dr. J. C. Cahill, Dr. J. J. Dalton, Dr. J. L. McKee, Dr. Nat F. Grafton, and Dr. George P. Horst.

As time went on and the city grew other branches of the Presbyterian Church came into being. The Southern Presbyterian Church was formed and had its house of worship on the corner of Tenth and Travis Streets, where the Christian Church now stands. This church ceased to be active for a time but was reorganized twenty-two years ago. The Cumberland Presbyterian Church built at Tenth and Travis Streets also, on the present site of Kemp Kort. When the union of the Cumberland and the U. S. A. churches was effected that became the home of the united congregation known as the First Presbyterian Church.

Three of the city's smaller Presbyterian Churches have been fostered by the First Presbyterian Church: the Floral Heights Presbyterian Church, the East Side Presbyterian Church, and the Ray Community Church.

The present estimated value of the First Presbyterian Church building is in excess of $250,000.
